چکیده

Anderson et al. (2003), described muscle forces as major contributors to the vertical ground reaction force (Fz), and concluded that muscle support generating potential is described by its contribution to Fz. Winter (1980) defined the moment of support (Ms) as the summation of the net joint moments at the knee, hip and ankle, representing the extensor synergy of the lower extremity to prevent collapse of the lower limb.

Loading of the Lower Extremity and Low Back When Using Wedge Orthotics during Walking and Stair Negotiation

Wedge orthotics are commonly prescribed for patients with hyperpronation and/or low back pain to improve lower limb alignment and to reduce pain. The purpose of this study was to examine the kinetic effects of medial and lateral wedge orthotics during walking and stair negotiation. Twenty-two healthy young adults participated in the study. Each participant wore no wedge (W0) as a baseline and l...

Medial knee joint loading during stair ambulation and walking while carrying loads.

Carrying loads while walking or using stairs is a common activity of daily living. Knee osteoarthritis is associated with increased external knee adduction moment (KAM) during walking, so understanding how the additional challenges of stairs and carrying loads impact these moments is of value. Sixteen healthy individuals performed three types of MOTION (walking, stair ascent, stair descent) und...

Effects of Soft Tissue Artifacts on the Calculated Biomechanical Variables in Patients with Total Knee Replacements During Stair-Ascent

Total knee replacement (TKR) has been the main choice of treatment for advanced knee osteoarthritis (OA). Biomechanics of the knee during stair-ascent has mostly been studied using skin marker-based motion analysis techniques, but no study has reported a complete assessment of the soft tissue artifacts (STA) and their effects on the calculated joint center translation, angles and moments at the...

Gait analysis post anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: knee osteoarthritis perspective.

Individuals with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction are at increased risk to develop knee osteoarthritis (OA). Gait analysis describing kinetics of the lower extremity during walking and stair use (stair ascent and stair descent) can provide insight to everyday dynamic knee joint loading. In this study, we compared lower extremity gait patterns of those with ACL reconstruction (>1 ...

Whole-body angular momentum during stair ascent and descent.

The generation of whole-body angular momentum is essential in many locomotor tasks and must be regulated in order to maintain dynamic balance. However, angular momentum has not been investigated during stair walking, which is an activity that presents a biomechanical challenge for balance-impaired populations. We investigated three-dimensional whole-body angular momentum during stair ascent and...
